Mrs McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:14): (1471) My constituency question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. Last week a constituent contacted me concerned over an apparent near miss between a car and a Lake Bolac College primary school student who was crossing the Mortlake-Ararat road. Apparently the community has been requesting the installation of a pedestrian crossing with flashing lights on the road opposite the school for some time, given that it is a significant crossing. No parent should have to send their child to school concerned about their safety. It is of particular concern for Lake Bolac College because they have a student with a hearing impairment, making it difficult for them to hear oncoming vehicles. So I ask the minister: will you commit to installing a pedestrian crossing with flashing lights near the school to protect Lake Bolac schoolchildren?
