Mrs McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:59): I rise today to pay tribute to one of Geelong’s most valuable sons. Frank Costa passed away on Sunday, 2 May, with so many left mourning while celebrating a life of initiative and contribution. Frank was a titan of Geelong, my wider electorate of Western Victoria and indeed the entire state. He was best known for his presidency of the Geelong Football Club for 12 years. Frank’s philanthropy was without par. He established the Frank and Shirley Costa Fund for the Geelong Community Foundation and generously contributed to countless other causes and institutions, many of which we would not even be aware of. In 2015 he was deservedly appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his distinguished service to the community through his numerous roles and activities. Frank’s contribution to the Geelong community and the state of Victoria has been immeasurable. We will all be forever in his debt. It was an honour to have met Frank on multiple occasions, and I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and all those who cared for Frank and knew him closely. Vale, Frank Costa.
