Legislative Council

WESTERN VICTORIA REGION

14 October 2021
Constituency questions
Bev McArthur  (LIB)

Mrs McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (15:47): (1458) My question is for the Minister for Small Business. I am sorry she has left the room. It concerns the damage done to the City of Ballarat by her government’s incompetent response to the V/Line train crash which destroyed the heritage rail gates on Lydiard Street. Tuesday marked the 500th day since the gates were smashed, yet the road is still—unbelievably—closed. Businesses are suffering, and there is no access to customers—that means no business for the small business owners. The government has promised a $10.5 million temporary solution, but 500 days later the works have barely even begun. So Minister, 500 days on we need a commitment—and today would be helpful—on what date Lydiard Street, a major Ballarat thoroughfare, will be reopened?
