Legislative Assembly

BROADMEADOWS ELECTORATE

28 May 2019
Constituency questions
Frank McGuire  (ALP)

Mr McGUIRE (Broadmeadows) (11:46:42): (652) My question is to the Minister for Public Transport. What is the latest information about removing the congested level crossing at Barry Road, Campbellfield? This is close to the Ford site where the news has just been announced that hundreds of millions of dollars will be invested to develop this site as part of an economic development strategy. The Ford Motor Company has sold a large part of its sites at Broadmeadows and Geelong to the Pelligra Group. Ford will retain its research, design and engineering footprint. The new sites to be named Assembly Broadmeadows and Fortek Geelong will be subdivided, with Pelligra buying the former manufacturing facilities. The company has committed an initial $500 million for stage 1 of this urban renewal project and estimates that up to 2000 jobs will be delivered initially across the sites, mainly in technology and new businesses. Ford has previously reinvested hundreds of millions of dollars, making the Broadmeadows site its centre for excellence for innovation in the Asia-Pacific Region, and it also intends to invest another $500 million this year in research.
