SUZANNA SHEED  (IND)

Ms SHEED (Shepparton) — When Edna Harling crossed the stage in her neat black suit, the crowd rose to their feet and there was a standing ovation. At 102 years of age Mrs Harling only stopped playing her beloved lawn bowls competitively three years ago and was being honoured for her illustrious six-decade sporting career.

She was one of 27 talented and passionate sportspeople who were celebrated this month at Greater Shepparton's inaugural Sports Hall of Fame. An extensive nomination and assessment process saw inductees chosen from across the gamut of sports — Paralympic swimmers and tennis players, Olympic runners and hockey players, cyclists, motorcyclists, shooters and boxers as well as croquet and badminton players. We are a strong sporting community, and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate their impressive feats. Congratulations to all the inductees and to their friends, families and the volunteers who have supported them in reaching their goals.

I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the Greater Shepparton City Council, the Shepparton News and all those who worked so hard to establish the hall of fame and to celebrate it with such a wonderful event.
